Salary: £ 26,915 per annum

We have a three-year post to work on a research project on 'Science and Empire in the Roman
World’, funded by the Leverhulme Trust. You will be expected to play a major role in the editing of
two volumes of essays arising from the project and in co-organising a programme of conferences
and seminars, and you will be required to produce a monograph on a subject closely related to the
concerns of the project as a whole. The School welcomes applications from a range of different
areas: from those working in Roman cultural/intellectual history, in the literature of the Roman
Empire (especially from applicants with interests in the encyclopedic or technical writing of the
period) or in history of science. You should have a good Honours degree in Classics or some other
subject closely related to the project (e.g. in History of Science), and should have completed, or be
near to completing, a PhD in a relevant area. You should have a good working knowledge of Greek
and of Latin. The post is available from 1 April 2007, or as soon as possible thereafter.
