JMM sent this one in (thanks!) ... I've been trying to find whether there's an ancient precedent for this sort of thing ... a statue of Mary in Sacramento is claimed to be weeping 'blood'. Perhaps this bit from Julius Obsequens (under 166 B.C. at the Latin Library) is close: Ad lucum Libitinae in statua equestri aenea ex ore et pede aqua manavit diu. Another (under 133 B.C.): Scuta novo sanguine maculata. (presumably the the shields of the Salii?)
