Over at Campus Mawrtius, there's a couple of useful posts ... the first is a short disquisition about meter which includes a list of some of the more useful reference books/articles on same ... there's also a very useful list of 'required reading' type secondary material about the ancient world (this isn't a criticism, but it's interesting how much of this sort of reading list is of 'generation-ago' works ... I wonder if other disciplines have such longstanding 'standards' to read).
