Alun over at Archaeoastronomy posits an interesting scenario ... suppose you were inflicted with some neurological disorder which allowed you to only see the text of one Classical author. Which would it be? For Alun, after considering Cicero and the Elder Pliny, it would be Herodotus. I'm not sure who I'd pick ... it would probably be a tossup between Valerius Maximus and Aulus Gellius ... maybe throw Plutarch in the mix too if I'm in a Greek mood. All of them share the 'variety of topics' that would keep me from getting bored ...
